Excursions by Bus
There are year-round bus-tours which start at the Royal Opera House.
Many of them visit various islands of the capital.
You can enjoy the view of the town from the open top of a double decker
bus. There is possibility to get on and get off there at 10 buss stops
in the city. Excursion trips are guided in 2 languges: English and
Swedish. A ticket costs 190 Kr and can be purchased onboard. These
tours are operated every 30 minutes and starting at the Sweden House in

Excursions by Water
Stockholm Excursions by water are very romantic and interesting. You
can take a trip under the bridges, along the embankments, round the
green isle of Djurgården. These water trips are arranged summer
long:
from April to December.
Sightseeing by boat is the classic way to see the Swedish capital. The
whole town can be seen from the water. The variety of tours is very
wide:

delicious food and beverages. It is a viking-style tourist tour. It
costs from 150 Kr and up.
One can take a trip on a high-speed RIB-boat from the Royal Palace via
town's coastline. It costs 295 Kr and is available from the middle of
May until the beginning of September. |

Excursions to Archipelago
The famous archipelago of the Swedish capital that consists of 24
thousand islands can be easily reached right from the city centre. One
can easily get there by boat. There is a regular connection between
archipelago and the hamns of Strömkajen and Strandvägen in
the centre
of the town.
You can enjoy a wonderful cruise to the Stockholm's Archipelago on a
modern high-speed boat or alternatively on a slow-speed "old-fashioned"
ship. It takes less than half an hour to reach there. The archipelago
includes thousands of small islands. It is the ideal place for fishing.
Among others are Sandhamn, Fjäderholmarna, Vaxholm.
The small town of SANDHAMN is very popular among the fans of
windsurfing. VAXHOLM is well-known for its gallery collection of
paintings. There are some hotels and restaurants here.
FJÄDERHOLMARNA
are very intersting for children, there are to a lot of outdoor games
and other activities there. |

Excursions by Train:
Experience travel as it was done 100 years ago!
In Mariefred one can ride on the century old steam train on the museum
railway Östra Södermanlands Järnväg.
A return trip takes about 50 minutes. From the station in Mariefred a
spur leads to the steamship jetty. The Steamer "S/S Mariefred" is going
between Swedish capital and Mariefred.
The train ticket costs between 44 and 200 Kr.

Excursions by Horse and Carriage
Djurgården is the world's first National State Park that is
situated
only a 10- minute-ride from town's centre, and the way lays through
beautiful tree alleys. There are tours of different levels - for
beginners and for more sophisticated riders.

Excursions by Helicopter
It is possible to take helicopter excursions in the Swedish capital.
There are two main companies providing this service: "Arlanda
Helicopter" and "Helicopter Assistance".

Flight in a hot air balloon is unforgettable. From the hight of a
bird's fly you can enjoy picturesque and beautiful views of the city of

Birka Vikings Excursions
The settlement of "BIRKA" was founded on the isle of Björkö
in the Lake
of Mälaren. It was planed as a port in the Northern Europe. It was
the
first Swedish town with the population of more than 1,000 people. Birka
- was a great trade centre for more than 200 years. Here they sold and
bought silver, pearls, iron and leather. After a certain time the town
was suddenly abandoned by its citizens. The reasons are unknown. Now
this ancient town is put onto the world's heritage list by the UNESCO.
On the Isle you can see various shows. In summer time one can also see
the Swedes that are dressed like Vikings and live here for the whole
summer period. A restaurant, a café and a shop are situated on
the isle.
One can get to Birka by the excursion-ferries which travel regularly
from the centre of Stockholm. The price includes transportation,
excursion with a guide and admission to the museum.
The museum is open from April 29 to September 11. |
