WAR IS THE FATHER OF ALL THINGS. (HERAKLEITOS
540-480 BC)
Armémuseum - one of the best in Sweden was awarded the title of
the "best museum of Stockholm" in 2005. The building was erected in the
17th century and was used as a place of production and storage of
artillery weapons. The museum had been under restoration and was again
opened to the public in 2002.
Weapons exhibition is useful for visitors with an interest in the
weaponry of the Swedish Army. Here one can find hundreds of weapons and
firearms of any kind, as well as beautiful makets of soldiers of the
past centuries in their natural size. Scenes of great battles are
composed here. Weapons, military clothes and other attributes of wars
are shown there. In a special room trophies and flags of the defeated
armies are exposed.
The Army Museum is devided into 3 levels. All the exhibits are placed
in chronoligical order.
Books and souvenirs can be bought at the shop. It is highly recommended
to visit this interesting museum with a plenty of exhibits.

level: THE HISTORY OF ARTILLERY.
Mounted horse artillery as well as very old guns dated from the 15th
century are introduced here. The guns are decorated with beautiful
ornaments and inscriptions. There are some models of Swedish
fortifications and castles displayed in showcases. You can view the
modern artillery on displays. They include missiles, robots and so on. |

- 2nd
level: THE WORLD OF UNIVERSAL CONSCRIPTION.
Here one can find information related to army and weapons from 1901
until nowadays. One can learn about Swedish neutrality in the two World
Wars of the 20th century as well as about attempts to achieve nuclear
weapon during Cold War. There are a lot of makets of soldiers with arms
in their real size.

level: WAR.
On this level one can learn about wars
that were used to be
humans companion during the ages. The exhibits display the Vikings of
Scandinavia and Middle Ages. The sculptures of Thor, Scandinavian God
of thunder and war, is displayed here. Thor was the guardian of
warriors and peasants. He had a magic hammer as a weapon.
Among other interesting exponats one can find here well-made makets of
landsknechts, Swiss and German mercenaries, that were the best soldiers
of the 16th century. Light and heavy cavalry, pikemen and musketeers
with their helmets, breastplates, swords and other military equipment
can be viewed on displays.
One can learn about the foundation of the Military Autocracy in Sweden
which took place in the end of 17th century. It was a time when a King
concentrated all power in his hands and the nobility was deprived of
their lands.
On this level the Trophy Chamber lies. Here standards from the 17th and
18th centuries that were conquered in wars by the Swedish Army are
displayed.
