Skansen is one of the oldest ethnographical museums in the world, which
stands under the open air. It is situated on the island of
Djurgården. It was found in 1891. The latest 500 years of the
history of Sweden, from North to South, are gathered there. There is a
collection of ancient Runic stones in the park.
There are more than 100 errections of different centuries on its
territory. All these buildings were gathered and moved here from
different parts of Sweden.
One can see a peasant garden, a glass factory and many other
interesting exhibits. In the town quarter of the 19th century it is
possible to meet its "inhabitants". There is a post office, a
typographical shop and a bakery shop among those buildings. You can
watch Swedes dressed in old traditional costumes baking bread and rolls
for you. A loaf of bread costs around 25 krones.
