SKANSEN - The Famous Open-Air Museum !
Skansen is one of the oldest ethnographical museums in the world, which stands under the open air. It is situated on the island of Djurgården. It was found in 1891. The latest 500 years of the history of Sweden, from North to South, are gathered there. There is a collection of ancient Runic stones in the park.
There are more than 100 errections of different centuries on its territory. All these buildings were gathered and moved here from different parts of Sweden.
One can see a peasant garden, a glass factory and many other interesting exhibits. In the town quarter of the 19th century it is possible to meet its "inhabitants". There is a post office, a typographical shop and a bakery shop among those buildings. You can watch Swedes dressed in old traditional costumes baking bread and rolls for you. A loaf of bread costs around 25 krones.

SKANSEN PARK

Skansen Park is a traditional place for resting and promenades for Swedes. In summer concerts in the open air are regularly held: pop, jazz, blues and classical music is played. Almost every day musicians play traditional music which accompanies dances. Traditionally festivities are also held here. "Walpurg's Eve" night - the meeting of the spring, the national day of Sweden, Midsummer Day, St.Lucia's Day, Christmas and New Year.
There are several café, restaurants, souvenir shops on the territory of the park. Here you can also find a Tivoli Cirkus for children. Park is a perfect place for rest.









SKANSEN ZOO

The only Zoo of the city is situated here. In the Zoo you can see many traditionally Scandinavian animals and other ecsotical animals - elks and lynx, wolverine and reindeer, brown bear and wolf, bisons and otters, apes and monkeys.










AQUARIUM AND TERRARIUM

There is a separate Aquarium and Terrarium on the territory of the park. There you will meet sea-lions, crocodiles, turtles and other inhabitants of the water world. It cost extra fee - 65 Kr - to visit it.

Djurgårdsslätten 49–51. Bus 44, 47, Ferry to Djurgården, Tram from Norrmalmstorg.

Park is open:
May 10am– 8pm;
Jun–Aug 10am–10pm;
Sep 10am–5pm;
Oct–Apr, (except Christmas Eve) 10am–4pm.
Historical buildings are open: May–Sep 11am–5pm, Oct–Apr, (some buildings) 11am–3pm.
