THE CITY OF STOCKHOLM

The cental part of the city of Stockholm consists of three districts: Norrmalm, Östermalm and Södermalm.

NORRMALM

Norrmalm is the district that builds the north part of the Stockholm town. Norrmalm consists of the areas of Klara, Jakob, Södra Johannes, Norra Johannes, Södra Adolf Fredrik, Norra Adolf Fredrik, Gustav Vasa, Östra Matteus, Västra Matteus and Roslagstull. More than 60,000 people live in the district. Most of them are the inhabitanats of Gustav Vasa and Matteus. Odenplan is the central place of the district of Norrmalm.
The district has a lot of cultural and business activities such as theatres, restaurants and shops which are situated there. Its parks - Vasaparken, Observatorielunden, Vanadislunden and Bellevueparken - are favourite rest places for the city inhabitants.

The main shopping centres in the Stockholm city centre are situated in Norrmalm in the DROTTNINGGATAN, HAMNGATAN, KUNGSGATAN and BIRGER JARLSGATAN.

Hötorget is a very popular place in the town. Here the city's largest market is situated. Many restaurants, cafés and other entertainment places are situated around this place. It is surrounded by the busiest shopping streets.

Gustav Adolf's Square is situated in Norrmalm. The Royal Drama Theatre - "Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern" - that is situated there was built by architect Fredrik Liljekvist in 1901.

Stureplan – a place, where many Swedes use to appoint meetings with each other. Many famous bars are situated here. The most popular night clubs are situated in the square of STUREPLAN. Many bars and restaurants can be found in the area round STUREPLAN.

Sergels Torg
Right in the centre of the capital under the central square of Sergels Torg many shops and boutiques are situated. Sergels Torg's obelisk was erected in 1972 by sculpturer Edwin Öhrströms. It is made from mountain-crystal. The central square is a popular place for meetings and demonstrations. Kulturhuset is also situated here.

ÖSTERMALM

Östermalm or the east part of the central Stockholm is the excellent place for promenades thanks to parks. For many centuries it was the district where rich people used to settle.
The Stockholm's University, The Royal Institute of Technology and some arts institutes are also situated here. Some of the city's museums are situated here, too. The district has an active entertainment, cultural and business life.

SÖDERMALM

The district of Södermalm consists of the the areas of Södermalm, Gamla stan, Långholmen, Riddarholmen, Reimersholme and Södra Hammarbyhamnen. It has more than100,000 inhabitants. Södermalm is the district of entertainment, fashion and youth culture. Many night clubs and bars pubs where many kind of whiskey and beer is served are situated here. A lot of boutiques and style-shops can be found there.
It was historically place where rich inhabitants used to live.
Here are many antique boutiques.
There are many houses from 17-19 centures which were renewed. Many artists live here.
Katarina Kyrka is situated here.









CITY PARKS

Kungsträdgården – a popular park in the centre of the city. In summer a lot of concerts are held on its territory. In winter Kungsträdsgården is used for skating.

Berzelii Park was layed out in the middle of the 19th century. It is situated near the building of the Royal Opera House. The statue of the famous Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius is erected in the middle of park. Berzelii park is a popular place for promenades and resting for the citizens of Swedish capital.

The district of Norrmalm has a lot of parks: Vasaparken, Observatorielunden, Vanadislunden and Bellevueparken. They are favourite rest places for the Stockholm city inhabitants.

CITY NIGHTCLUBS

There is a plenty of music night clubs, pubs and discotheques. They include jazz clubs, modern dance clubs and others.
A lot of night clubs and bars are situated in SÖDERMALM. The most popular night clubs are situated in the square of STUREPLAN. Other popular nightlife places you can find in KUNGSHOLMEN and around KUNGSGATAN.
